Personalising Web of Knowledge

The personalisation feature of Web of Knowledge allows you to view your saved searches and set up alerts for searches, citations and Table of Contents (ToC) of your favourite journal titles.

To personalise Web of Knowledge you need to register.

On the personalised Homepage you can:

Save your search history or alert

After running a search in your database, access the Search History page:

  • In Web of Science click on the Search History button
  • In CAB Abstracts and INSPEC click on the Combine Searches button
  • In Current Contents Connect click on the Save History button at the top of the results list

  • If you have not already signed in, you will be requested to do so.
  • In the Save Search History page fill in required fields and select other options.

  • Server Save Confirmation will appear
  • Click on the Home button to view the Home Page with the saved search displayed in the right hand personalised column

Create a journal list and Table of Contents (ToC) Alert

  • Sign In to your personalised Homepage
  • Click on Create My Journal list and Table of Contents Alert (if you already have a journal list, this link will be View my Journals List)
  • In the My Journals List page, click on the Add More Journals button

Your search may result in a list of journals, scroll if necessary to find your journal.

Journals with e-mail alerts set up will be displayed on the Home Page under the My Journal List with an asterisk

Citation alert

A citation alert notifies you by e-mail whenever an article has been cited by a new article. It is only available in Web of Science.

  • Conduct your search and view a full record, then click on the Create Citation Alert button.

Results analysis

This is not an alert, but an interesting feature in Web of Science.

Analyse your results in the Web of Science by a field you select, for example author, journal title (source) or institution name to see who is publishing the most in your chosen field.

  • Click the Analyze button on any Summary Results page to go to the Results Analysis page.
