What is a mediated search?
The University Library offers an expert online search service on
behalf of University staff operating under special circumstances
(such as a consultancy or research grant) who request assistance
in performing a literature search. In addition the Library has access
to a range of commercially available databases to which our clients
do not have direct access.
How to request a search
Contact your liaison librarian
in any of the campus or branch libraries in the first instance.
A brief interview to discuss specific search requirements will be
conducted. This may be conducted in person, by phone or email.
How much does it cost?
A fee of $50.00 per hour staff time will apply, plus any costs for
searching commercial databases. This can vary from as little as
US$1 (FirstSearch) or several hundred dollars. (Dialog databases)
How long does it take?
Most searches can be performed within two working days.
Search results
Most online searches result in a bibliography often with abstracts,
on the topic specified by the requester. This can be delivered to
you as a printout, or by email.
If you want to do your own search
Professional librarians are available to provide comprehensive fee-based
searches, but we also provide training and assistance in the use
of the many databases available via our web pages.
