Darrel Baldock

Darrel John Baldock (b 1938), footballer and politician, born at Devonport, made his football debut with East Devonport at sixteen, and in 1960 became Tasmania's youngest captain. His 1962 move to the Victorian Football League was instantly successful. Although short (177 cm), he played at centre half-forward, kicking 236 goals for St Kilda in 119 games from 196268. Known as 'Mr Magic' or 'The Doc', he captained St Kilda's first premiership team in 1966, Victoria in 196667 and the 1966 all-Australian team.

Baldock returned as captain/coach of Latrobe from 1969 to 1974, setting a North-West Football Union record with four straight premierships. Also a Labor MHA for Wilmot/Lyons, 197282, Baldock was inducted into the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame, and named captain of St Kilda's Team of the Century.
