Terrapin Puppet Theatre
Laura Purcell and Sam Routledge, The Storyteller's Shadow , Terrapin Puppet Theatre
The Terrapin Puppet Theatre was established in 1981 by Jennifer Davidson after the Tasmanian Puppet Theatre closed in 1980. Designer Greg Methé has been working with Terrapin since its foundation year. Puppet productions toured Tasmanian schools with up to five new works created each year. In 1992 Annette Downs took over as Artistic Director, restructuring the Company, increasing the level of government support and raising the Company's profile through national and international touring. Jessica Wilson began her term as Artistic Director in 1999, moving Terrapin into the creation of experimental works for adult audiences using a combination of artforms including projected image. Terrapin continues to build its reputation for extending the boundaries of puppetry and for the creation of new Australian works with strong visual aesthetics and high production values.
