Apollonius of Rhodes, Argonautica, in Greek. Printed at Venice at the Aldine Press by Andreas, son-in-law of the Press’s founder, the famous Aldus Manutius, April 1521
Noteworthy features include the neat hand of an early annotator that differs little from the text font. The book’s format shows both forward- and backward-looking features: for example, on the one hand, a scholarly apparatus at the end of the text and, on the other, spaces reserved for coloured initials to be added by hand.
Cent Rare PA 3872. A1 1521. Acquired by Robert Dunbabin, first Professor of Classics at this University, 17 May 1918; given by him to the University Library in 1940.
