Where do I start my research?

A good way to start your research is to define your topic by using subject dictionaries to define terms or to find background information in encyclopaedias such as:

How do I find books on my subject?


Education books are found in the general collections at both the Launceston Campus Library (Ltn) and the Morris Miller Library.
Each library also has Curriculum collections that contain material suitable for lesson plans, as well as significant collections of children's fiction. 
In the Library catalogue, Curriculum collection material shows as Ltn Curric or Morris Miller Curric.

To find books on your subject you can:

  1. Search the Library Catalogue, using the Subject keyword or General keyword search option. 

OR

  1. Browse the library shelves and the Library Catalogue using these call numbers
  • Launceston Campus Library:   General education collection shelved between 370 - 379.999
  • Morris Miller Library:   General education collection shelved between L and LT
  • Cradle Coast Campus:   Access to Reserve Library only

    Both Launceston Library and Morris Miller Library have their own Curriculum collection located seperately within the library

 


 

How do I find journal articles?


The Library holds journals both in print and electronic formats.
The best way to access articles in these journals is by using the databases listed below.

When you find an article you want to read, use the Library Catalogue to see if the Library has either print or electronic access to the document. 

If you know the title of the journal, you may check the E-journals link for all the electronic journals to which the Library subscribes or limit your search by using the Education E-Journal link below.

Australian Sport Database (AUSPORT) indexes pamphlets, conference papers and journal articles on all aspects of Australian sport. 

AUSSTATS

Official Australian Bureau of Statistics data on all aspects of Australian life and society. It includes preschool, primary, secondary, tertiary, vocational and adult education statistical data.

The Australian Multicultural and Immigration Studies (MAIS) database indexes all aspects of immigration and multicultural issues in Australia.

PsychInfo includes indexing and abstracting coverage for educational psychology.

Curriculum Corporation

Curriculum Corporation is a provider of curriculum materials and services in Australia. Includes links to curriculum frameworks, syllabuses and product catalogues.

How do I cite and manage my information resources

Below are guides to citation styles and other aspects of presentation. The APA style is the accepted style for the Faculty of Education.  EndNote is personal bibliographic software used to manage your sources when undertaking in-depth research. The Library provides training in EndNote for postgraduates and staff.
