Members of the public are welcome to visit UTAS libraries during normal opening hours. Some services we offer may be available only to students and staff of the University of Tasmania. Services that may have restrictions include printing, document delivery, some electronic resources and borrowing from Reserve Collections.
Members of the public, UTAS alumni and students and staff at other institutions may join as Special Borrowers by bringing a completed application form (PDF 352.1KB) together with supporting documentation to any UTAS Library.Some Special Borrower categories pay a non-refundable fee.
Organisations interested in Corporate Borrower membership should contact Karmen Pemberton, Morris Miller Librarian, or Wendy Hoyle, Launceston Campus Librarian.

By signing the Special Borrower card the Special Borrower:
Special Borrowers must borrow material in person using their Special Borrowers Card. Special Borrowers have the same borrowing privileges as undergraduates except for Reserve items. Special Borrowers may use their Borrower ID and Library PIN to access library services (PDF 1.2MB) through the library catalogue . Books can be recalled for other readers and need to be returned within 24 hours of the receipt of the recall notice to avoid penalties. Photocopying is available with the purchase of a reusable photocopy card (PDF 147.0KB).
Tasmanian Polytechnic and Step Up students and staff need to apply through their institutional libraries.
Special Borrower membership is valid for twelve months.
