Take the items and your ID card to the Desk or self check terminal if available. Please retain the date due receipt you are issued with.
Special borrowers are unable to borrow items in the Reserve collection.
3 day and low demand items can be renewed up to three times, provided they have not been requested/recalled by another client.
You can renew items you have on loan by going to the library home page and selecting My Library.
An item you have on loan may be recalled before the original due date if it is requested by another client.
You will be notified by email if the loan period is reduced. If the loan period has been reduced you will have 7 days to return the item to the library.
Note: If there are already requests on an item you borrow the loan period will be automatically set to 7 days. Fines of $1 per day apply for the late return of recalled/requested items.
Maximum fine $30. If you have placed a request/recall on an item you will be notified by e-mail when it is ready to collect.
You will have 5 days to collect a low demand item and 2 days to collect a 3 day loan item.
You can return most items to any library service point using the appropriate return chute.
Reserve items however must be returned to the library from which they were borrowed.
An after-hours return chute is available in most libraries.
Non-reserve items may also be returned to the Polytechnic Library in Devonport. Please note that the return chute at both the Art Library and the Clinical Library are only accessible when the building is open. The Music Library does not have an after-hours return chute.
Items must be renewed or returned by the due date. The library imposes fines for overdue items. It is the borrower's responsibility to note the due date and return the items on time. Responsibility for all material issued rests with the person named on the ID card unless the card's loss was reported to the library prior to the date the material was borrowed.
Unauthorised removal of library material that has not been formally issued, and the mutilation or damage of library material are treated as serious offences. Ordinance 79 (Library Ordinance) (PDF 22.7KB), Ordinance 9 (Student Discipline) (PDF 69.3KB) and Rule 101 (Library Rules) (PDF 39.5KB) apply.
An account for the replacement cost of the item and a processing fee of $30 will be emailed to you.
All Library notices including reminder, overdue, and hold-pickup notices are sent by e-mail.
You do not need to pay your fine until your total fine is $5 or more. Payment is accepted in the following ways:
If you are having difficulty paying fines please don't hesitate to discuss your fines with staff in the Library or email us at Library.Queries@utas.edu.au. In most cases, we can organise mutually acceptable payment arrangements. For example:
These options allow you to continue borrowing while paying off your fine. Where there are extenuating circumstances that have led to fines there may be grounds for having the fines reduced.
