Gould's Book of Plants exhibition
The convict artist William Buelow Gould (1803 - 53) is best known for a series of watercolour illustrations of Tasmanian fish which he completed in the early 1830s while a prisoner at Macquarie Harbour penal station. It was these remarkable images that inspired Richard Flanagan's award winning novel, Gould's Book of Fish. It is less well known that the same artist also completed over 170 illustrations of Tasmanian plants.
The exhibition is part of a Research Life of Arts Objects project, funded by a University of Tasmania Community Engagement Grant 2011, directed by Prof, Adrian Franklin and Assoc.Prof. Hamish Maxwell Stewart.
