The Morris Miller Library Level 2 Redevelopment was officially opened by Senator Carol Brown, Deputy Government Whip in the Senate, on Wednesday, 6 April.
The $3.2 million dollar Commonwealth funded project, will deliver 24/7 access to Level 2 plus to the Learning Hub on Level 3 as well as more than 50 new quiet study spaces in the expanded and redesigned Reserve/Reference area. The Library entry has been significantly improved with window panels that wrap around the entrance and integrate the space with redeveloped outdoor courtyards, and introduce more natural light.
Staff work areas now allow for greater client-focussed service; client service areas have been improved with the introduction of client-friendly service ‘pods’ (doing away with the traditional service counter) and can be added to or removed depending on student demand.
A new eLab has the functionality to record information and research skills classes and the major services upgrade has included electrical, mechanical and hydraulics.
The redevelopment has assisted in rectifying issues raised in successive library surveys, such as computer access, adequacy of group/quiet study/individual seating facilities, and facilities for using personal laptops.
The Morris Miller Library is an iconic library building occupying a central location on the Sandy Bay campus. Read a brief history of the building.
