This on-campus, 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time honours degree course is offered at the Hobart Campus in the School of Management (incorporating Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, International Business, Tourism and Business Management). The School of Management offers its Honours program in Hobart subject to sufficient enrolment numbers.

Admission & Prerequisites

Entry to the Bachelor of Business Honours program is open to students who have completed the Bachelor of Business (or equivalent approved qualification) with an Grade Point Average of 7.0 or higher (i.e. this equates to an average of distinction or higher in at least 50% of the Second and Third year units of the undergraduate degree).

Course Objectives

On successful completion of the Honours program it is expected that you will:

• have gained an in-depth and thorough understanding of the theoretical framework, key concepts and research underpinning the disciplinary area of particular interest to you;
• have developed your ability to analyse and critically appraise key concepts, arguments and research findings within the literature relevant to your disciplinary area;
• have developed your ability to undertake independent research, as well as the skills required to do this satisfactorily;
• be able to meaningfully analyse and discuss research findings and their implications; and
• be suitably qualified to pursue higher degree work should you so desire.

Articulation to/from Course

• Graduates of BBus, BEc, BBus-LLB, BTourism or a BBA degree may seek enrolment in BBus(Hons)
• The BBus(Hons) may lead to a coursework masters degree or to one or both of the research higher degrees - a Master of Commerce and /or a PhD.

The honours year comprises the following units:

• BMA401 Research Methods in Management (12.5%)
• BMA402 Management Honours Seminar (12.5%)
• BMA403 Special Topics in Management (12.5%)
• BMA417 Data Analysis and Management (12.5%)
• BMA415 / BMA416 Dissertation (50%)
