Small Business, Innovation and Enterprise focuses on serving the unique needs of businesses in Tasmania through engaged research that links the School of Management to the community - needs that have emerged due to Tasmania's unique geographical, environmental and social location. There is a focus on problems that are important to Tasmania, the Commonwealth, and the entrepreneurship discipline; and currently has three long term programmes: (1) Inclusive and innovative entrepreneurship education that develops students with interdisciplinary interests by helping them recognize, assess, and exploit opportunities through-out their career and across many contexts; (2) Innovation and entrepreneurship in agricultural value chains both in Australia and developing nations, in collaboration with scholars from the University's Tasmania Institute of Agriculture and the Australian Maritime College with School of Management; (3) linking Commonwealth, State and local regional development agencies to small businesses and entrepreneurs with the aim of creating more effective SME policy. In this regard, in concert with the Australian Innovation Research Centre, the primary purpose of the work lies in contributing to the University's role in fostering economic prosperity in the Tasmanian regional context.
