The objectives are to provide: a sound basis in the physical and biological sciences in the first two years of study; in the final two years of study, specialisation and advanced study of the major discipline areas of agricultural science; scientific knowledge in the principles of agricultural production and sustainable resource management that meet the needs of industry, business and government.

Antarctic and Southern Ocean is one of the University's theme areas and it is an area that is unique to the University of Tasmania. The course has two streams - Antarctic Life Science or Antarctic Physical Sciences - allowing for different emphases in specialisation.

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology in the School of Engineering is a 3-year degree course (though credit may often be given for previous studies) that may be studied full-time or part-time. It is primarily intended to be undertaken by diploma students articulating from TAFE Colleges. It is not generally intended that entry be from Year 12. The Bachelor of Engineering Technology programs are in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
