Our students have the opportunity to enhance their learning experiences by involvement in ACAP New South Wales educational evenings, attendance at ASNSW field exercises and guest speakers from ASNSW that attend the Student Paramedic Australasia (SPA) education evenings at UTAS Rozelle campus. This also assists with their integration into the industry and improves their preparedness for employment application within the paramedic industry.
Rozelle campus has been conducting the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice since 2010. The pioneer class of the degree will graduate in March 2012. The degree is conducted by four full-time on-campus staff as lecturers/senior lecturers and a number of off-duty paramedics providing contemporary practice.
Our aim at UTAS Rozelle is to provide the community with sound, comprehensive out-of-hospital care through the development of UTAS Paramedic students conversant in the field of paramedic practice.
We value a community of learning that integrates humanistic values of integrity, accountability, respect and teamwork to achieve a paramedic degree of the highest standard.
We view our aim to be the cultivation of a positive learning environment, inclusive of physical and intellectual resources, promoting best practice which is well-respected and supported by UTAS, the Ambulance Service of NSW (ASNSW), Ambulance Tasmania and health professionals. UTAS staff and students attend careers days to provide information to potential applicants. UTAS Rozelle open day is held annually in August each year.
Applications for enrolment open around August each year, and a wide range of students are offered placements, including those from year 12 (ATAR 75), TAFE/University degrees and mature-aged learners.
The Ambulance Service of NSW (ASNSW) is entirely supportive of UTAS Paramedic students and UTAS has a strong collegial partnership. Rozelle students attend their clinical placements as supernumerary with on-road Paramedic crews, a total of 12 weeks over the 2-year fast track program.
Personnel from ASNSW Media, Recruitment, Education, Counter Disaster and Control centres all provide support for staff and students in an educational context. In addition we have a pool of UTAS casual tutors who are also employed by ASNSW as active on-road Paramedics.
