Terms of Reference

The MBBS Year 4-5 Curriculum Committee aims to prepare graduates that meet the Medical Graduate Profile and are ready for internship.

Specifically:

  • Plan, manage and review Years 4-5 of the MBBS curriculum
  • Develop, implement and monitor curriculum for Years 4 and 5 of the MBBS
  • Facilitate students' development of appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes for the diagnosis and management of illness
  • Develop students' understanding of basic and clinical sciences and the ability to critically evaluate the scientific foundations of medical practice
  • Instil in students the desire to apply the highest ethical standards in their practice, and to value continuing education and self-evaluation of performance
  • Monitor delivery and quality of teaching and learning activities in the Clinical Schools
  • Plan, develop and monitor appropriate assessment and evaluation methods in the clinical years of the MBBS

To fulfil these requirements, it:

  • Approves teaching material and activities for the consideration of the Learning and Teaching Committee
  • Liaises with other teaching staff in the development of consistent curriculum and assessment for Years 4-5 – particularly in the planning, writing and review of assessment items
  • Approves assessment blueprints across Years 4-5 for approval by the Learning and Teaching Committee
  • Oversees development of assessment instruments, pro formas, and oversees the planning of assessment across Years 4 and 5
  • Engages in analysis of assessment data (in collaboration with the Medical Education Unit), especially in terms of reliability and validity of instruments in practice
  • Monitor assessment results and oversee provision of feedback to students regarding their assessment performance
  • In collaboration with the MEU, monitor effectiveness of assessment and assessment policy and provide feedback on Assessment matters to the Learning and Teaching Committee
