This practical workshop has been designed for GPs, GP Registrars and RMOs wishing to further develop or refine their skills in the management of acute surgical and traumatic wounds.

Faculty-Participant Ratio: 1:6

This workshop been approved for a ONE DAY PROCEDURAL SKILLS TRAINING GRANT of $2000 per day. These grants are offered by the Australian Government for rural and remote GPs to maintain their skills. For more details please contact Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

  • Principles of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Basic and Advanced Suturing Techniques
  • Acute/ Chronic Wound Debridement and Repair
  • Sebaceous Cyst Removal

0900-0930 Introduction: Principles of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
0930-1015 Simple Suturing Skills Revision – Simple Interrupted and Vertical Mattress Suturing
1015-1030 Morning Tea

3 groups rotate every 45 minutes		 Lesion Removal SS
Local Anesthetic Administration/Punch Biopsy NC
Advanced Suturing-corner stitch, buried suture, dog ears JS
1245-1330 Lunch

3 groups rotate every 45 minutes		 Sebaceous cyst Removal NC
Acute/Contaminated Wound Debridement
Chronic Wound Debridement SS

1600-1645 Troubleshooting/General Discussion
