Why study the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice?
The Bachelor of Paramedic Practice commenced in 2010. It is delivered on two campuses: Hobart (Tasmania) and Rozelle (New South Wales). The course is a full-time 2-year fast-track model, delivered over 3 semesters per year.
This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to provide out-of-hospital emergency health care. A paramedic primarily works with each State Ambulance Service, however employment is available in industries such as mining.
The majority of units within the courses are paramedic-specific, taught by experienced Paramedics at the School of Medicine. Additional units which provide critical health care information used by paramedics are provided by the School of Human Life Sciences and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. During the first year, students learn foundational health care, both theoretical and practical. Second year further develops and builds on the foundation knowledge and skills in a critical environment.
Clinical Placements are an essential component of the program. These are undertaken in specific health care facilities and with the local Ambulance Service.
UTAS has offered the Associate Degree in Paramedic Studies since 2006, and is now offering the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice. The Bachelor of Paramedic Practice (Conversion Pathway) will facilitate currently practicing paramedics transitioning to the Bachelor Degree.
