The Primary Care Rotation 2 presentation prize was awarded to a group studying depression in male problem gamblers.
Third-year medical students Alex Willows, Joann Pinto and Brita Mahoney (pictured with Dr Scott McKeown, a member of the judging panel) won the prize for their study aimed at increasing the recognition of the symptoms of depression in male problem gamblers by the distribution of coasters and posters in gambling areas.
The prize was awarded as part of the 3rd-Year Primary Care Research and Health Promotion Project Presentations.
Each of the winning group members received registration funding for the RACGP Annual Scientific Convention (GP11), to be held in Hobart this year, as well as support to present their research proposal at the conference.
All third-year medical students have the opportunity to design a Primary Care research or health promotion project as part of their Primary Care rotation.
The presentation for the third rotation is scheduled for Tuesday 16 August at 1pm (venue TBA).
All are welcome to see what these future researchers and clinicians are doing as part of their training.
