Prof Allan Carmichael recognised for outstanding contribution to health services
Rain threatened, though this year's Town and Gown took place in fine conditions in Hobart's CBD on Wednesday. The fourth annual Southern Town and Gown procession commenced at Domain House and concluded at the Grand Chancellor Hotel.
More than 300 graduands from the Faculty of Health Science and the Faculty of Arts joined the Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Damon Thomas, the Vice-Chancellor of UTAS, Prof Peter Rathjen, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Science, Prof Ray Playford, and other University staff in the procession.
At the Graduation Ceremony, former Dean of the Faculty of Health Science, Professor Allan Carmichael, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition for his contribution to health services as an academic, clinician, policy-maker and academic leader. As Head of the School of Medicine, Prof Carmichael led the development of the revised five-year MBBS degree.
