Anna Hebblewhite is performing the lead role of Maria Rainer in The Sound of Music.
Anna, a third-year student at the School of Medicine is taking the role of Maria, made famous by Julie Andrews.
This classic piece of musical theatre, by Rogers and Hammerstein, is produced by ExitLeft at the Derwent Entertainment Centre and is accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra.
The show tells the story of Maria, who is a little too "high-spirited" for the life of a postulant.
She is sent from the convent to work as the governess for the seven children of Captain Von Trapp, played by Chris Parker, from Melbourne.
Maria's growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry.
Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy.
The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre
The production runs until May 1.
