Calling all medical students who take photos on electives. If you have captured a stunning, amazing, poignant, fascinating, disgusting, or mind-blowing moment in the still frame while on your elective, we invite you to enter the inaugural TUMSS Photography Competition.
The aims of the competition are to promote rural and global elective placements amongst students, to increase awareness and sensitivity to the cultural differences that are present as part of global health, and to provide the School of Medicine with artwork derived from the student body.
Each submission must be insightfully titled, and include the photographer's name and elective country. All submissions must be received by 25 January 2013. Please send submissions in .jpg, or .tiff format, with the title and other details in the file name, to Dr Nick Cooling(Nick.Cooling@utas.edu.au). Care must be taken to ensure the dignity, confidentiality and humanity of patients and people in the photographs. Consent from any identifiable individual in the photo needs to be obtained using the relevant UTAS Personal Consent Form or by verbal consent with details recorded. Refer to the Photography guidelines (PDF 130.3 KB) for guidance.
Entry in the competition will be taken as consent for TUMSS and the School of Medicine to utilise entries for display, both in print and online.
All entries will be judged by the Director of Electives, the TUMSS President, and the Lecturer in Global Health using a points-based system. Points will be awarded for creativity (5 points), inspiration (5 points), composition (5 points), and the medical context (5 points).
Winning photos will be announced and awarded prizes at the electives symposium night on the 30 January 2013 at the Hobart Clinical School. All chosen photos will be framed and displayed in ClubMed (G01) in the Clinical School, and later in Hollydene House. If you have any questions please contact Nick.Cooling@utas.edu.au.
1st prize in each category wins $150 cash.
The runner-up in each category wins $50 cash.
