About the Centre

Our work is aimed at building information and understanding that improves health services, particularly within Tasmania and Australia.

The direction of the Centre for Health Services Research has four primary facets:

1. Health Systems Research and Evaluation
   The Centre will stimulate scientific enquiry into health at an individual and population level, and to develop new evidence-based approaches in which health services can best be organised, funded and delivered
2. Evidence into policy and practice
   The Centre will conduct research that is relevant to the concerns of today's health services, and will work with decision-makers to support informed decisions that improve health care in Australia.
3. Data Use
   The Centre will advance innovation and excellence in health data use. The Centre will provide expertise and leadership in health care data development through research that draws upon a myriad of data resources.
4. Health Workforce Development and Leadership
   We are committed to developing the health leaders of tomorrow. In a uniquely collaborative research environment, the Centre will foster innovative thinking through evidence-based research and applied learning.

Governance, Membership and Strategic Planning

Membership of the Centre will focus on clinicians and academics who are actively engaged in health service delivery, administration and/or research.

At its inception, the Centre will be managed by a steering group comprising:

• Associate Professor Anthony Lawler
• Mr Michael Pervan
• Associate Professor Stella Stevens
• Professor James Vickers

There is considerable opportunity for the Centre for Health Services Research to interact with other School and Faculty initiatives, such as the Short Course Program, the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, the NHMRC Centre for Clinical Research Excellence and the Health Postgraduate Program. Health service industry partners will also be approached to develop collaborative initiatives.
