R3N course objectives and specifications

NB: First year students should enrol in all the music units listed in the Year 1 row. (Please make sure to follow the course guide of your specialization.) All students should seek advice from the Faculty of Arts executive officer for the units that will comprise the BA component of this degree. Where a music elective is listed, students may choose a unit of study from the list of Conservatorium electives; these course guides indicate an ensemble unit may be preferred, but students may choose other music electives.

NB: In teach-out from 2010. The course guides below show the replacement units (available from 2010).

FYI:

  • For the FCM31x Major Study 3A unit students should enrol in one of the following: FCM310 Orchestral Instruments 3A, FCM311 Keyboard 3A, FCM312 Guitar 3A or FC3113 Voice 3A. In the next unit of study an FCM310 student will enrol in FCM320 Orchestral Instruments 3B, an FCM311 Keyboard 3A will enrol in FCM321 Keyboard 3B and so on.
  • Students wishing to complete the BMus component in the Musicology stream complete 4 units of FCM study (levels 100 and 200) and replace the level 300 FCM units with FCP302 Music Before 1700 and FCP301 Music Since 1950. NB: These are in addition to three additional FCH/FCP Music History units.
  • Within the BA component students must complete the requirements of a major in one discipline. A major is normally made up of sequential units in one discipline comprising 25% of Level 100 units plus 75% of Level 200/300 units (totalling a minimum of 100%) Please seek advice from a sub-dean in the discipline areas you wish to study.
  • Units studied outside the BA or BMus schedules will not count towards the combined degree
