younger musicians.
Christopher Martin - Conductor and Violist
Christopher Martin was born in England and studied the
violin with Henry Holst and the viola with Cecil Aronowicz
at the Royal College of Music in London. He began his professional
viola career in the Edinburgh String Quartet. He then played
for some years in the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra under
Szymon Goldberg and the London String Orchestra under Carl

Since migrating to Australia over twenty
years ago, Christopher has had an extremely busy professional
life conducting, playing and teaching. He recently retired
as Senior Lecturer in Strings and conducting at the University
of Melbourne and now concentrates on conducting and varied
community activities. He was appointed conductor of the Australian
Doctors' Orchestra for its premiere performance in 1993 and
he has continued to have an important role in the organization
as it has subsequently developed. He is at present Musical
Director of the Chamber Strings of Melbourne, a group of young
players aged between 16 and 23. Earlier this year the group
toured Russia, Estonia, Finland, Denmark and Holland to great

positions at the University of Queensland and Tasmanian Conservatorium
of Music.
Christian's extensive orchestral experience
in Australia includes principal cello of the Tasmanian Symphony
Orchestra and guest principal in most Australian orchestras,

Symphony Australia orchestras, in addition to his intensive
recital activity in centres all over the country.
Micheál McCarthy - Aural

Micheál McCarthy is a specialist in the areas of aural
and choral training. He conducts workshops in Australia and
overseas for Tertiary Institutions, Primary Schools and Secondary
schools. His workshops focus on learning through movement,
fun and games and on a range of skills such as pitch, rhythm,
interactive learning, improvisation, co-ordination, gross
motor skills and musical memory.
The workshops present a range of teaching approaches involving
singing, movement, rhythmic work and games. Specific skill
areas include pitch, rhythm, memory skills, creativity, interpretation,
improvisation, composition, structure, inner hearing and part
