Situated only five minutes from the centre of Hobart and the historic Salamanca Markets, the Conservatorium Recital Hall is the ideal venue for chamber music, small ensemble concerts, recordings and broadcasts. The Recital Hall provides tiered seating for 172 patrons and is equipped with a handcrafted Stuart & Sons concert grand piano along with two Yamaha C7 grand pianos. Tie-lines provide access our fully integrated recording studio.
The G17 Recording Studio Area is a fully integrated layout consisting of a large control room, studio playing area, a drum room and 3 isolation booths, all with visual sightlines and tie-lines including access to the main Recital Hall. Each room has its own late model PowerMac workstation running Pro-Tools, Cubase and Logic connected to Digidesign and AVID interfaces. The studio also comes with a vast number of microphones and a mixture of digital and analog technology.
The computer laboratory serves as a teaching space for music technology applications including Logic Pro, Sibelius, Finale and Ableton Live. The teaching workstation is enhanced with a data projector and 2.1 speaker system for presentation of all audio and visual materials, and each of the 20 student workstations includes a midi keyboard with additional midi devices including Novation: Zero SL MkII & Launchpad, Akai: MPD & APC midi controllers and Yamaha Wind Controllers on hand for use by students.
The newly refurbished research rooms for PhD students feature Power Macintosh G4 computers, telephones, internet and printing facilities, computer software for music copying and bibliography creation, private desks, filing cabinets and lockers as well as access to tea and coffee making facilities and lavatories.
Located in Heathfield House, the new Honours Rooms allow for 24 hour access for the purposes of internet research, computer and prionter access, personal desk-space and study areas, as well as coffee and tea-making facilities and lavatories.
The Percussion room stores all of the major percussion resources of the Conservatorium including a Musser Marimba, Korogi Marimba, Musser M55 Vibraphone, Musser M51 Xylophone, a set of Premier Timpani, many smaller percussion items as well as percussion equipment for contemporary music and Jazz.
This state-of-the-art lecture space includes facilities for projection of powerpoint presentations and other teaching of computer based units, such as introductory lectures in music technology, music copying, time-based moving image, etc. The lecture space incorporates a digital data projector and playback facilities (CD, disk, cassette, radio).
A small lecture room for seminar type presentations.
A larger lecture room for presentations, small rehearsals, performances and exams.
A full serviced music library that supports the artistic and research needs of performers, composers & music educators of the Conservatorium of Music and the wider community of musicians. The Library has a view over St. David's Park, and is situated on the 5th floor of the Conservatorium building.
Each of the Conservatorium Cottages is fully self contained and complete with bath/shower, washer and dryer, refrigerator, stove, crockery and cooking equipment, telephone and all bedding and linen.
Literally only steps from the Conservatorium building, the location is ideal for visiting performers and scholars. After the working day the location of the cottages allows for a splendid short stroll through St. David's Park down to the waterfront restaurant district of Salamanca Place.
