The Conservatorium Big Band
Big Band is an 18 piece jazz ensemble dedicated to keeping
the Big Band tradition alive. The ensemble covers everything
from Duke Elligton's timeless arrangements to the hard swingin',
modern arrangements performed by the GRP All Stars Big Band
from the USA. The band rehearses on Thursday nights for 3
hours, and total commitment is mandatory. Extra sectional
rehearsals are always being called, and the performance opportunities
are many. This is Jazz's orchestra - the ultimate ensemble
experience for the dedicated jazz musician.
Anyone wishing to join the band needs to be aware entry is
by audition. Excerpts will be provided with notice (couple
of weeks min). Places only available for Trombone, Trumpet
and Saxophone (alto and tenor with doubling on soprano). Exceptional
reading ability is required - instrumental skills should be
equivalent to grade 8 AMEB. Previous experience in a jazz
ensemble given preference.

Rehearsals/commitment:
Rehearsals are conducted once a week during semester time
only in the Conservatorium Recital Hall on Tuesday evenings
from 7:00pm til 10:00pm.
