STRUTTIN' WITH SOME BBQ,
a development process
A project by AAO Artistic Director, Peter Knight and Eugene Ball
Australia's most distinguished artists and established jazz musicians. The Australian
Struttin' with Some BBQ is the third in a series of AAO responses to the jazz greats and follows Sandy Evanâs extraordinary tribute to Charlie Parker, Testimony, and the recent Prince of Darkness, which explored Miles Davisâ life. As with these previous pieces, Struttin' is a contemporary work that responds not just to Armstrong's incredible music, but also to his fascinating life story.
The AAO will workshop this project in its early stages at the University of Tasmania in July 2013. This will culminate in a presentation of Louis Armstrong through music and written word on Friday 19 July at University of Tasmania.
Conceived by Eugene Ball and Peter Knight, Struttin' with Some Barbecue, a development process will feature:
Peter Knight, AAO Artistic Director, trumpet and electronics
Eugene Ball, trumpet and composer
Allan Browne OAM, drummer and poet
Martin Ng, turntable artist and experimental DJ
Sam Pankhurst, double bass
Brett Thompson, guitars
Plus students from the UTAS Conservatorium of Music
Jazz is played from the heart. You can even live by it. Always love it.
