Alistair Dobson is an improvising saxophonist. In 2001 was awarded his Masters degree where his research project focused on collective improvisation – an area he is now a leading exponent of as both a practitioner and educator. He is currently Sub-Dean, Co-ordinator of Contemporary Reeds and Brass and lectures in Contemporary Saxophone, Improvisation, Big Band, and Jazz Theory/Aural. His performances have been captured on numerous recordings and national live to air broadcasts for ABC Classic FM. He has an international performance history and at home performs with some of Australia’s finest musicians including David Theak, David Jones, Dan Barnett, Michael Spiby, Don Burrows, Jo Jo Smith and Dave Panichi. Currently he is a member of “Kelly Ottaway’s Modern Operative”, “Let The Cat Out” as well as maintaining an active freelance performance profile.
