We seek out the best students the world has to offer and welcome them into a community of minds. Of hearts. Of passion. Music performance is about the synthesis of mind, heart and passion. At the Conservatorium of Music we value and nurture your intellect, your expression and your ambition.
There is no better expression of the individual support we offer than our dedicated and talented staff. As you browse our site, or visit our campus, I would invite you to get to know the achievements and artistry of our staff. Whether they have attained the respect and admiration of their colleagues through chamber music performance, orchestral performance, working as a soloist or in the art of music scholarship or music composition, all of our staff reach for the best in themselves and in their students.
Many activities throughout the year serve as focal points for the artistry our staff bring to music. Regularly students and staff perform together in an exciting partnership that places professional experience and mentorship at its very core.
Alliances with local ensembles also enrich a student's experience at the Conservatorium of Music. Organisations such as the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the Conservatorium Southern Gospel Choir, Conservatorium Opera, IHOS opera productions and the many new outreach programs the Conservatorium offers create a rich field from which students gain understanding, skill, expressive breadth and ultimate mastery of the art of music.
The Conservatorium of Music at the University of Tasmania has produced some of the worlds best musicians. Cellist Lei Wei Qin, in constant international demand as a soloist and recording artist is one such example. Violist Keith Crellin, now at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide is another. Fortepianist, harpsichordist and modern pianist Geoffrey Lancaster is yet another. These musicians and many others like them reflect the intensity, passion, commitment and drive the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Tasmania imparts to and instils in its students.
Come to Tassie. Live Music. Focus your future. Attain your dreams.
Sincerely,
Professor Douglas Knehans
