The recipients of UTAS Contemporary Music Scholarships can specialise in Contemporary Performance (jazz, rock or popular music), Songwriting (see also UTAS Scholarships - Songwriter) or Audio Design & Music Technology. The courses reflect 21st century expectations for equipping contemporary musicians and are delivered by some of Australia's finest and most highly regarded practitioners.

An exciting degree is available for songwriters that brings together the art and practice of songwriting and the expectations and demands of the modern music industry. The Conservatorium of Music and the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) have partnered to provide some of Australia’s most respected and successful songwriters to teach into this program. Scholarships covering HECS costs for this degree are available to interstate APRA members.

As a recipient of a UTAS Classical Piano Scholarship, you will receive comprehensive and detailed instruction in solo performance, accompaniment and mixed ensemble chamber music. Studying with some of Australia’s most acclaimed pianists, you will study works from the Baroque through to the most recent contemporary compositions.

The D&MV McDonald Scholarship in Music was established at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in 2008 by the late Dawson and Margaret McDonald to support students of the violin, viola and cello to study in the United Kingdom with a selected master musician. The scholarship is available to a student entering their final year of undergraduate, honours or masters degree to fund a residency in the UK for up to 10 weeks during January/February 2014. To be eligible for selection, applicants must be enrolled in a full‐time course at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music studying the violin, viola and cello.
