Do you live for movie night, spend all your money on theatre tickets, and have a flair for the dramatic? Then our Open Day at Inveresk is a fantastic destination for you! The Inveresk precinct is the northern home of the University’s School of Creative Arts, including our Theatre courses. We even have our own working theatre! Come along to these delightful dramatic events at Open Day and find out why our courses give students a unique preparation for a creative career in the arts.

1. Behind the Scenes Theatre Tour

Did you know the University of Tasmania has a fully operational theatre at the Inveresk precinct? This means our Theatre students can put on real productions for the community, and manage everything from the posters to the performance. Take this opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Annexe Theatre and find out what it’s like being a Theatre student!

When: All day.

Where: Meet at the Art, Music, Theatre Hangout in the School of Creative Arts Building on the hour.

2. The Media School Pop-up Film Festival

If you’re also interested in what goes on behind the camera, you have to check out the Media School’s Pop-up Film Festival. The festival will showcase our Media students’ own films. Genres range from documentary, to animations, to promos, so grab a beanbag and some complimentary popcorn and enjoy the show!

When: All day.

Where: School of Creative Arts Building.

3. Playing with Parachutes

Use parachutes to make your own micro movie! Join artist Dr Jacquelene Drinkall as she guides you through a short series of activities using a parachute to simultaneously produce a live video artwork. This fun and creative activity will appeal to people of all ages.

When: Held on the hour, every hour, for 10 minutes.

Where: The Stone Building foyer.

4. Drama Class

What’s it really like studying drama at a University level? Come along to the Drama Class and find out! This is your chance to participate in real theatre training exercises lead by Dr Jane Woollard, our Head of Theatre. This 50 minute class includes drama games, basic acting exercises, and a lot of fun. You might just realise you have a future in acting!

When: 11am.

Where: Rehearsal Studio, Annexe Theatre.

5. Promenade Performance: Speaking Texts Without Words

See our fantastic students in action! Join Dr Asher Warren, Lecturer in Theatre, for a 30 minute tour of short, site-specific works created by Theatre and Performance students from the School of Creative Arts.

When: 10.30am and 2pm.

Where: Meet at the Art, Music, Theatre Hangout in the School of Creative Arts Building.
