New inner-city home has hit the mark

The MidCity, the University of Tasmania’s latest student accommodation development, is off to a great start.

Earlier this year, the University of Tasmania acquired the former Midcity Hotel — known now simply as the MidCity — and its new residents have forged a community of people from all over the world.

As a home to students from around Australia and abroad, the MidCity is the perfect base to study, play, and explore in Hobart’s CBD.

The MidCity is centrally located on the corner of Elizabeth and Bathurst streets, just a few minutes’ walk to the Medical Science Precinct, Conservatorium, and the School of Creative Arts. Cafes, dining, nightlife, and retail are all right at the doorstep of this 140-bed complex.

Sydney Cohee, a sociology student on exchange from the United States, has had no trouble settling in.

I am in love with it so far. It’s really nice to have breakfast and dinner included. Everyone comes down and eats together, so it’s pretty easy to make friends and meet people.

The MidCity offers a choice of private or twin-share rooms, each with its own private ensuite bathroom. The former hotel also has common spaces for student lounges, quiet study areas, and laundry facilities.

With themed events, study groups, and a range of activities at hand, there are always opportunities to socialise with other students.

Stanlie Kristiawin moved into the MidCity during his second year of study and has met many new friends at the accommodation.

I love this location, it’s very convenient… I don’t ever want to move from here.
