The School of Nursing & Midwifery (SNM) is a large multi-campus school. The main campus is at Newnham in Launceston, Tasmania and there are three satellite campuses situated in Rozelle and Darlinghurst (NSW) and Hobart in Tasmania. The School offers both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education.
The undergraduate program, the Bachelor of Nursing (BN), is undertaken either over two or three calendar years with each of these options being equivalent, comprising six semesters of study. The SNM is proud to offer the BN in partnership with a number of Health Care Agencies both in Tasmania and in NSW. In Tasmania, the BN is offered in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services and a number of private Health Care Agencies, student professional experience placements being available throughout Tasmania. In NSW at the Darlinghurst Campus it is offered in partnership with the St Vincents & Mater Health Service and at the Rozelle Campus with Sydney Local Health District (LHD), South Western Sydney LHD and South Eastern Sydney LHD. For Sydney based students, professional experience placements are available in these and a number of other LHDs in NSW.
The aim of the SNM’s extensive postgraduate program is to meet the educational needs of registered nurses and midwives by offering an accessible, diverse and innovative range of professional nursing and midwifery specialisations. The majority of units are delivered flexibly. While the postgraduate program is growing rapidly, SNM staff are committed to maintaining a personal and supportive relationship with their students. Postgraduate students reside and work in States and Territories throughout Australia.
The SNM is also research-active, maintaining an extensive research program in collaboration with clinical partners, other Schools in the Faculty and other University partners. Current research strengths include: healthy ageing in the community; aged and dementia care; eHealth; and practice development.
