Clinical Associate ProfessorInger-Margrethe Jensen, Ass. Dean at the Faculty of Health Sciences at VIA University College in Denmark holds a position as Clinical Ass. Professor School of Nursing and Midwifery. In 2005 Inger-Margrethe established the study abroad programme and the student exchange programme between Tasmania and the Danish Schools of Nursing in Denmark and in collaboration with Ass. Dean Denise Fasset. Over the years Inger-Margrethe has supported the international collaboration between UTAS and VIA UC and the very strong links between the Denmark and UTAS by organizing and managing the exchange programmes. Annual 22 Danish student nurses are enrolled at UTAS and are attending studies at the School of Nursing and Midwifery and in Sydney Local Health District. Inger-Margrethe is focused on attracting UTAS students to study for a semester in Denmark and to increase R&D activities and projects between UTAS and VIA UC. |
Ms Jennifer Ayton

Clinical Senior LecturerJennifer Ayton, RN RM Masters Midwifery Research; is a PhD candidate jointly with UTAS School of Social Sciences /Sociology & Menzies Research Institute; is the recipient of the Tasmanian Early Years Scholarship to pursue her PhD studies in exploring the low rates of exclusive breastfeeding in Tasmania. Jennifer mentors and tutors UTAS medical students, has achieved success in gaining in competitive grants, peer reviewed paper, continues to review papers for journals such as the BMJ, Archives of Diseases in Childhood, has a broad clinical background working across various setting and countries, including developing countries and aboriginal communities. |
Dr Brett Mitchell

Clinical Senior LecturerDr Brett Mitchell leads the Tasmanian Infection Prevention and Control Unit in the Department of Health and Human Services. He has a strong clinical background and experience in infectious diseases and infection control. Brett serves on national committees relating to healthcare associated infections, is the Editor-in-Chief of Healthcare Infection, a nurse immuniser and a credentialed infection control professional. Brett has a strong interest in research relating to infection prevention and control, with a focus on quantitative research. Post graduate qualifications include a PhD, Masters in Advanced Practice, Diploma in Tropical Nursing and Certificate in Applied Healthcare Management. Brett supports the School of Nursing and Midwifery through supervision of research students, guest lecturing and promotion of the School through publications. |
Ms Anita Booker

Clinical LecturerAnita works as a Clinical Nurse Educator in the Department of Critical Care Medicine in Hobart. Her role involves running an introduction to critical care programme for Grads and other nurses new to intensive care nursing aswell as co-ordinating education for all nursing staff within the department. This includes undergraduates and those undertaking post Graduate study in Critical Care through UTAS . In her spare time Anita recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Divinity and is currently studying for her Masters in Clinical Nursing. |
Mr Laurie Bourke

Clinical Lecturer
Laurie Bourke RN BA Grad Cert (Learning and Teaching) Master of Clinical Nursing Laurie is currently employed in DHHS (THO-South) as a Clinical Nurse Educator in the division of Complex Chronic and Community Services. He has worked within the rural, community health and rehabilitation settings as an Educator for seven of the past eight years and as a Lecturer at Deakin University in 2012. Laurie’s interests are working with the aging population, preventing functional decline and promoting quality and safety in nursing care delivery. Across his career Laurie has worked with SNM students as a preceptor, clinical teacher, lecturer and mentor. |
Mr Pieter Van Dam

Clinical LecturerPieter Van Dam works a Senior Consultant Leadership and Management in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This work involves providing education, training and consultancy services to all (health) professionals working in the DHHS and Tasmanian Health Organisations with the aim to enhance their leadership and management skills. Pieter is currently undertaking his doctoral study in leadership development, exploring how Clinical Nurse Leaders have learned to lead. Pieter’s other involvement with the School of Nursing & Midwifery is supporting Higher Research Degree candidates. |
Professor Bernie Carter

Clinical ProfessorBernie Carter is Professor of Children’s Nursing based at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK and she is also the Director of the Children’s Nursing Research Unit (CNRU) at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. She is committed to ensuring that children and young people are involved at all stages of her research from design to dissemination. Her research work focuses on children’s pain, illness and disability with the aim of trying to understand children’s experiences so that practice can be improved and services are designed to meet the needs of children and their families. Bernie has strong links with the School of Nursing and Midwifery through her work with Dr Karen Ford. Bernie and Karen are working on joint research projects, have published papers together and are collaborating on a children’s nursing textbook. Further international research projects are planned for the future that will further strengthen Bernie’s contribution to the School. Bernie was delighted to be awarded a Visiting Fellowship in 2013 and she is looking forward to be spending six weeks in October and November 2013 working with colleagues, students and clinicians in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. |
