This pilot project addressed this gap to ascertain the incidence, predictors and implications for residents associated with re-assessment following admission to these facilities in Tasmania.

Prior to admission of an elderly person to residential aged care an Aged care Assessment Team must assess their level of dependency. Anecdotal evidence suggests that following admission some of elderly people are re-assessed as requiring a lower level of care. This had significant funding implications for aged care providers as funding is directly linked to dependency. However, no research has been undertaken to address this issue. This pilot project addressed this gap to ascertain the incidence, predictors and implications for residents associated with re-assessment following admission to these facilities in Tasmania.
