Staying Safe

Student on campus

Everyone has the right to feel safe while they're studying on campus. UTAS provides a 24 hour Security Service, 365 days of the year, staffed by trained Security personnel. Contact Security if you feel unsafe for any reason while on campus.

You can call Security directly using Help Point telephones, which are located around campus. You can also phone Security on:

Note down these numbers in your diary or put them in your mobile phone.

There are security patrols who:

  • Provide a security presence during peak hours
  • Conduct patrols of the campuses during the day and night
  • Respond immediately to emergency calls
  • Provide escorts in specific instances of concern, both physical and via the Safer Walk routes

For emergencies, telephone the Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance on 000. Please note that if using a University telephone '0' must be dialled prior to dialling 000 to obtain an outside line. If 000 is called, please contact Security as soon as possible so that they can arrange to meet and direct emergency services to the location.

For more detailed information refer to Security and Access and tips on personal safety on campus.

While on campus, it is important that you know about the University's Health and Safety policies and procedures. A guide to what you need to know as a student is available Health and Safety Advice for Students (PDF 216.6KB).
