Motor Vehicle Salary Packaging

The University has entered into an agreement with LeasePlan Australia to enable eligible UTAS staff the opportunity to salary package a motor vehicle by way of a novated lease. A novated lease is an arrangement between a staff member, their employer (UTAS) and LeasePlan. It enables staff to lease a vehicle of their choice (Conditions apply for Government CarPlan) by using the tax effective benefit of financing the vehicle and its operating cost from pre tax salary. All leases are on a fully maintained basis including insurance provided by LeasePlan. UTAS staff on continuing appointments or fixed term appointments, with a minimum of 1 year remaining on their contract are eligible to participate.

The staff member retains ultimate responsibility to make any payments under the lease in the event that they leave their employer or if their employer fails to make payments on their behalf or their personal circumstances change. (ie leave without pay, study leave, overseas travel).

All leasing arrangements must be approved by UTAS before an employee places an order with LeasePlan.

Staff members are reminded not to sign or commit to the purchase of a vehicle, once the lease is approved, LeasePlan will place the order with the dealer.
