David Little
Bachelor of Pharmacy Undergraduate
David was looking for a career change when he chose the Bachelor of Pharmacy at UTAS. His previous occupation in health care reinforced his decision to move into pharmacy where he could continue helping people.
“During my previous career as a Navy Medic I became interested in pharmacy and thought it would be a great option for my next career. After living in big cities like Sydney and Melbourne I was looking for a smaller city with cheaper living costs and a friendly atmosphere where I could begin a new profession; and so I chose UTAS.
I have really enjoyed the units ‘Infectious Disease’ and ‘Therapeutics’. The lecturers are outstanding and demonstrate a wide array of experience as practicing pharmacists. In 2nd year I learnt why and how we use medicine to treat specific conditions and this knowledge has really broadened my understanding about the importance of pharmacy in the health care industry.
When I graduate, I hope to work as a pharmacist in a hospital. Having worked in emergency departments and operating theatres before, I know that I enjoy this environment and look forward to being a valuable part of a health-care team.”
Penelope Hextall
Bachelor of Pharmacy Undergraduate
Penelope was always interested in health science and made the move to Hobart in 2009 to pursue a career in pharmacy at the UTAS School of Pharmacy.
“When I was looking at different university degrees, I was drawn towards the Bachelor of Pharmacy because I had always been interested in science and I really enjoyed helping and working with people. I chose UTAS for a couple of different reasons. I had heard good reports from friends and family about the University, but mainly it was nice and close to my hometown of Launceston in northern Tassie.
Now that I’ve been studying with the School of Pharmacy for a few years, I am certainly glad to be at UTAS. The class sizes have always been pretty small which has enabled me to form some great friendships, I get close supervision and help from the academics, and I love the placement opportunities that I have received in hospital and community pharmacies.
When I graduate, I am looking forward to working in a community pharmacy and like the idea of building relationships with regular customers.”
