Shane’s story
BPharm(Hons) PhD
Shane Jackson has become a regular face at the School since first enrolling to study in 1994. He shows a genuine passion for pharmacy, research, and the industry.
“Pharmacy students and pharmacists from Tasmania are regarded as the best pharmacists from around the country. With that reputation I never wanted to go anywhere else.
During my Bachelor of Pharmacy this was proven when I encountered one of the best lecturers and mentors that any University student could find. Greg Peterson the head of school is an inspirational teacher who encourages you to think and be actively involved in activities that benefit the profession. After I completed my Bachelor of Pharmacy I wanted to keep learning from Greg, and so I commenced my PhD which I completed in 2004.
My Bachelor of Pharmacy enables me to help people. I work as a consultant pharmacist, making house-calls and medication reviews; I am a small business owner; and I am actively involved at an industry level with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA). It was the completion of a PhD however, that opened up a world of new opportunities for me.
Today I have the most diverse and interesting career, and I attribute this to my study at UTAS. The School of Pharmacy gave me the opportunity to challenge myself, to move out of my comfort zone and to learn something new every day”.
