Career Summary
Durga completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel Kavre, Nepal in 2003.
During this time, Durga developed a strong interest in the area of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and Pharmacovigilance, and upon graduating, took up a position at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara, Nepal where she worked as a hospital pharmacist, patient counsellor and in the Pharmacovigilance centre.
Durga was particularly interested in continuing study of ADRs and Pharmacovigilance, to make a difference to Nepal’s regulations with the goal to minimise the incidence and occurrence of ADR. This led her to further study, completing her Master of Science (Medical Pharmacology) at the Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, Nepal in 2007. Durga worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Nepal Medical College in Jorpati, Nepal before coming to Tasmania in 2012 to undertake a PhD under the supervision of Professor Gregory Peterson, Dr Luke Bereznicki and Dr Leanne Chalmers.
Durga hopes to return to Nepal upon completion of her PhD to continue teaching and research with a focus on drug safety.
