Nuri graduated with honours in 1994 and completed his PhD in 1998 from the University of Konstanz (Germany). Since this time, he has travelled across the globe as a Senior Research Officer, Lead Scientist, and Director of Scientific Affairs in a range of organisations that have enabled his continued research into therapies for human genetic disorders.
He acquired extensive scientific and managerial experience in both academia and pharmaceutical industry. His specific scientific expertise centres on the development of in vitro assays using cell culture, microscopy, biochemical and molecular biology. These functional assays are used in screening regimes to identify, develop and select novel pharmacologically active molecules that can be tested using in vitro and in vivo models of human disease.
His particular interest at UTAS is to develop therapies for neuro-degenerative and mitochondrial diseases through collaborations between medicinal chemistry, pre-clinical and clinical sciences.
