Qi graduated with Honours from the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Malaya in 2007. She completed her pre-registration year at Penang General Hospital before becoming a registered pharmacist in Malaysia.
She joined the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Technology Mara (UiTM), Malaysia in 2009 as a training lecturer before being given the opportunity to undertake postgraduate study with the School of Pharmacy, UTAS. Upon graduating she returned to UiTM to resume teaching before becoming a full time PhD candidate in February 2012.
