On Wednesday 30th January, the School of Pharmacy bid farewell to over 300 delegates visiting Hobart for the annual National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association (NAPSA) Congress.
Hosted by the Tasmanian Association of Pharmacy Students (TAPS) at the Sandy Bay campus, delegates from 16 affiliated NAPSA branches around Australia travelled down to Tasmania for the six-day event which included a week of education and social opportunities.
Education sessions were held daily and included speakers from across Tasmania including lecturers Mr Angus Thompson and Dr Luke Bereznicki. In addition to this, the Pharmacy Student of the Year (PSOTY) wild card competition was held and for the first time there was a trade and exhibition hall.
Congress Organising Committee Chair and UTAS Alumni, Ayden Brown worked with a number of TAPS members to create the exhibition which he dubbed a success, stating “The trade hall was well received by both students and exhibitors alike and was a great opportunity for students to network both with each other and with industry professionals.”
As a main exhibitor, UTAS had a central stand and used the opportunity to promote research as well as the People’s Choice Award for the YPharm Video Competition with final winners to be announced mid-February.
NAPSA also successfully raised over $3,400 for the Tasmanian Bushfire Appeal, a sum which will be matched by a donation from Pharmaceutical Defence Limited.
The School congratulates NAPSA and the Congress Organising Committee on a great job organising the event and a very successful week of activities.
