Senior Research Fellow Dr Stuart Ferguson has received a 12-month extension to the Cancer Council Tasmania Research Fellowship that saw him receive almost $185,000 in 2011 to conduct research into what works when it comes to quitting smoking and why.
Dr Ferguson has been working with over 250 volunteer-quitters to better understand how different quit-interventions work, stating that "understanding how the interventions work will allow us to better tailor the support we provide to smokers and hopefully improve quit rates."
The Fellowship has been extended to March 2014, allowing Dr Ferguson to continue his investigation into support interventions and to ultimately improve the quit rates of smokers.
