In April 2012, Associate Professor Nuri Güven commenced work at the School of Pharmacy.
Dr Güven brings a wealth of knowledge and professional experience with him to his new role as Associate Professor at the School. His primary objective will be to lead the laboratory-based research being undertaken in the School, including strengthening our relationships with external laboratories and improving student techniques.
Dr Güven has a strong background in research with commercial applications, dating back to 2 patents during his PhD in Germany. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training on the molecular mechanisms of several ataxia syndromes at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, before becoming laboratory head at Santhera Pharmaceuticals in Liestal, Switzerland. His research covers developing pharmaceutical strategies of commercial value, overcoming the blood-eye and blood-brain barriers, and investigating lead compounds for mitochondrial disorders.
