Dr Jacobson is a senior lecturer, teaching second and third year units of pharmaceutics and toxicology as well as aspects of drug development and epidemiology relevant to the Australian Healthcare system in first year. He supervises a number of Honours and PhD students in laboratory based projects in the University of Tasmania's Division of Pharmacy. He completed his PhD at UTAS in airways disease pharmacotherapy and has worked in the pharmaceutical industry and commercial analytical laboratories.
Dr Jacobson's research has a strong emphasis on bioanalytical applications utilising HPLC, LC-MS and nanoflow proteomics, GC-MS, CE and Raman spectroscopy techniques in a variety of therapeutic areas. Current research areas focus on muscle and cardiac effects of beta2-agonists, as well as the effects of low molecular weight heparins in cancer and neurodegenerative disease. Dr Jacobson has setup a zebrafish facility within the University of Tasmania's Division of Pharmacy to support these research streams as well as collaborative projects external to UTAS Pharmacy. A range of zebrafish disease models are being developed that closely integrate with bioanalytical instrument capabilities.
