Gender
Studies provides critical tools to examine gender relations
in all relations of culture and society.
In particular, students
of Gender Studies gain the following skills:
An awareness of gender as a conceptual tool (historical, philosophical, methodological).
An awareness of the interrelatedness of the personal and the political.
An awareness of the effects of representation of gender on social and political life.
An ability to apply gender analysis to contemporary issues in professional and everyday life.
An ability to use the concept of gender as an analytical tool in a range of traditional disciplines.
An understanding of the management of gender issues in organisations, including workplaces.
Gender studies thus prepares students uniquely for careers
in administration and management, industrial relations, law,
social work, teaching, health, welfare sectors, community work,
journalism, media, publishing and the arts.
