Interdisciplinary
Programs and Overseas Study Opportunities
The School encourages candidates who wish to undertake interdisciplinary
study whether internally within the School of Philosophy (for example
between Philosophy and Gender Studies) or between the School of
Philosophy and other Schools within the University through joint
supervision arrangements. Candidates interested in such arrangements
should discuss this with the Graduate Research Coordinator.
Through the Tasmanian Buddhist Studies in India Exchange Programme,
the Philosophy School regularly hosts visiting scholars and lecturers
from the Tibetan exile academic community. We also offer our postgraduate
students the opportunity to study for extended periods of time at
Tibetan universities in India.
The School also has, through the person of Dr Marcelo Stamm, a developing
relationship with Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in Munich,
Germany, providing opportunities for students to spend a period
of their candidature in Germany. This is particularly important
for those students whose specialisation is in European philosophy.
CAPE (Centre
for Applied Philosophy and Ethics) is closely associated with the
School and provides a means for the School to engage in consultancy
and training activity outside the University environment as well
as to further links with the wider community.
