Gender Studies at UTAS is a vibrant interdisciplinary program in which students engage with a range of perspectives on gender. Historical and contemporary representations of gender and sex are explored, as are the tangled relations between gender, race, class, ethnicity and religion.
The core units in Gender Studies wrestle with questions of gender and power as well as gender and change, including historically changing understandings of human bodies and human sexuality.
We analyse the various ways that masculinity and femininity are enacted in the world, and develop a critical awareness of the gender orders within which these masculinities and femininities circulate.
All human beings live within a particular gender order: to study gender is to become more aware of the possibilities and constraints of the gender order within which you dwell.
