Grant is a landscape ecologist and spatial scientist, whose previous research has included analysis of the impact of rainfall patterns on native grasses in southern Australia, the impacts of mosquito control and climate change on mangrove communities in Darwin, modelling of mosquito borne disease, and researching the impacts of climate change on biodiversity. He completed his PhD at the University of Adelaide, and has worked in Darwin and Hobart.
Grant's current work focuses on using continental-scale data sets to analyze trends in fire danger, fire occurence, and particulate pollution.
